My first blood painting in two years. I love the idea of taking something very painful and creating beauty.

I think blood is so beautiful, you can't deny that the color is lovely. Well I adore the symbolism in taking your very own beautiful life source and making something out of it....

blood on bristal board

*I do not in any way condone self harm. There are ways to get blood without purposefully mutilating yourself. Basically I only make this type of work if I am already injured or bleeding, not by inflicting the bleeding on myself.

I find blood paint something quite intriging and meaningful, and you put into words by "taking your very own beautiful life source and making something out of it", it truly hits what I feel when watching a blood paint. I've never tried it myself, and I'm not really skilled with paint, but who knows, maybe someday.

The eyes are particularly captivating, and the color really (obviously) symbolizes the medium and the impact it adds.

Also, this may be really silly on my part, but I just now looked at your paintings with a bit more attention: you use yourself often as reference don't you? I confess I just now realized this, but many of the features between your paintings have similarities, normally the nose and the eyes. I feel a bit silly I only realized this now ^^;

Thank you for the kind words. It really is a great medium. Yes I use myself a lot :) I am free and always around lol.  I should paint my friends more often, but sometimes it's hard to get the emotion you are trying to express. Sorry this is so late!

Thank you so much! I am glad you like that part, because shading was really hard to do with this medium. I guess it's a bit like watercolor where you really have to layer to get different values.

Very lovely!!

Imagining the cleanest way to getting the blood is a syringe, but that comes with some SERIOUSLY bad associations lol...you'd have to know a diabetic who completely understands you aren't banging heroin lol...the patients can go get all the syringes they need usually, and can usually give you a few with no trouble.

That is a nice idea. I don't know if I would be able to do it, I think I would screw it up or take to much and pass out, but it is a nice idea...

The diabetic syringes are way too small to take a dangerous amount, and it's easy to stay sanitary.
May I ask how you are doing it?

Mutilating other people instead? tehee :)

No! I only use blood from un-intentional bleeding, like an injury. I don't take knives or syringes or sharp objects to myself. That just doesn't work out well for me and it's not in line with how I want to live my life now.

But yes it would be nice to get a ton a clean blood... I just couldn't do it anymore.

I understand, and agreed on not really wanting to inflict hurt upon myself either. I've had plenty inflicted without my own help, why would either of us want more :P

Yep, the diabetic syringe would be a non-injurious way, provided that all steps to avoid infection are taken.

That's cool, are you diabetic? So are they small and is that why they don't hurt or cause damage?

I'm thankfully not diabetic, but have known some and had to help administer shots to family. The needles are very small and are actually meant for "intra-muscular" shots, but blood can be drawn from a small vein with those. If you wanted to try that route, I'd definitely get with someone there who works as a blood donation specialist or any nurse who draws blood, and have them actually sit with you for a paint session so they can help you the first time. Safe, sane, sanitary :)

It's an idea... thanks for the info :) I think for now I am happy with just painting when I am bleeding! It's kind of a fun way to turn it around.
